The Book of Enoch is a fascinating piece of literature that holds significant historical and religious importance. It is classified as an apocryphal book and falls under the category of Pseudepigrapha, a collection of writings supposedly attributed to biblical figures. Despite not being included in the canonical Apocrypha, this book has garnered much attention.

The origins of The Book of Enoch can be traced back to Enoch, who was the great-grandfather of Noah and the seventh generation from Adam. The existence of this book in its present form dates back to at least the 2nd century BC, as evidenced by ten fragments found at Qumran in the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Historians and scholars believe that The Book of Enoch was likely composed in the second century BC and includes writings from the following century. While some speculate that it directly transcribed the words of Enoch, handed down through generations, it is impossible to definitively confirm this claim. The only certainty lies in the fact that fragments of the book can be traced back to the 2nd century BC.

Moreover, there is ample evidence to suggest that the Apostles and writers of the New Testament were well-acquainted with The Book of Enoch, also referred to as 1 Enoch. In fact, the Bible itself includes a direct quote from this book in the book of Jude (Jude 1:14-15), wherein Enoch's prophetic words are shared.
